How we move forward….
Community Engagement
In District One, special interests have long controlled the process—steering decisions with big donations and asking for public input only when it’s too late. Big money has also protected office holders from accountability, making it difficult to challenge an incumbent, even if their engagement and constituent service efforts are inadequate.
District One has the highest concentration of places identified for development in our county’s Master Plan. That makes a commitment to engagement incredibly important. Development needs to come from us, not at us. People need to understand why growth is needed, how we might grow and be assured that growth is mutually beneficial.
We’ll need developers at the table, but they must work in genuine partnership with residents to ensure growth strengthens our communities, preserves what makes our neighborhoods unique, and creates opportunities that benefit everyone.
Since our campaign is 100% people-powered, refusing developer, corporate and all special interest money, your voice will drive every decision from start to finish.
Here’s what that looks like:
Engage residents early and throughout projects, not as an afterthought once deals are done. The campaign is starting this work now!
Meet people where they are—markets, schools, places of worship, festivals
Negotiate real community benefits from development
Pass policies ensuring that growth benefits everyone
Use interactive tools to help residents shape neighborhood-supported projects
Communicate clearly and on time, every time
Strengthen partnerships with nonprofits that serve our communities
Together, we’ll replace special-interest politics with genuine collaboration and community leadership—and give you a true seat at the table.
